Stephen A Smith thinks the Dallas Cowboys should give Colin Kaepernick a call, despite that he hasn’t played in over 5 years.
He says they won’t, though, not because he isn’t good enough but because Texas is too “patriotic.”

You just won't let go, will you? Dredging up every insignificant and irrelevant stat you can find. Stats don't mean squat if you can't win games. And by "win games" I mean you have a QB who can win you a game - like Rodgers, Mahomes, Brady, etc..., not some QB like Joe Flacco or Trent Dilfer where the team may win in spite of the QB play because of the DEF or someone else. Kappy falls into that 2nd category.60%

Russell Wilson threw almost 60 more TDs starting a year later.

"but what about his run game!", you may say - NFL Defenses catch up to running QBs pretty quickly. And those QBs are usually in their early to mid 20's, not some ancient fossil like Kappy at 34 years of age. At that age, ALL previous running QBs become exposed. They run because they can't pass and when the running game dies you get Kappy.

You have it backwards. Wins are not a QB stat, TDs and INTs are.TD to INT ratio is not an irrelevant nor an insignificant stat, as it is a measure of accuracy. And he obviously won some games since he took his team to two NFC Division Championship games and one Super Bowl.

I meant where his TD to INT ratio stands now in comparison to other QBs as far as career stats are concerned.
I get it, but you have to accept sooner or later Kappy is not coming back to the NFL.
I am sure if he just wants to play football the CFL or USFL would use him for publicity but at 34 without having played in 6 years looks like he can officially retire from the NFL
As has been pointed out numerous times in this thread, playing in the CFL is not an entry way into the NFL or back into the NFL. The last QB to successfully transition from the CFL to the NFL was Jeff Garcia in 1999 and no one since.
You're the only one making this argument. Just because you make it over and over doesn't make it legitimate. The reason there aren't a lot of QB's who transition from the CFL to the NFL is because, well, most NFL capable QB's are already in the NFL. But every once in a while you get a Doug Flutie or a Kurt Warner who make their way to the NFL from one of the minor leagues of football. If Kappy thinks he's worthy he should go to one of those leagues and prove it. The NFL doesn't overlook talent no matter where it is. So, they'd gladly take him back if he showcased NFL ability. As has been pointed out numerous times in this thread, playing in the CFL is not an entry way into the NFL or back into the NFL. it certainly is when you're throwing 12 TDs a year because all you're doing is running.

“Couldn’t pass for anything” seems a bit strong
Comp PCT: 2015 he finished 30th of 35 qualifying QB, in 2016 he finished 17th out of 30
YPA: 2015 he finished 31st of 35, 2016 24th out of 30
QBR: 2015 he was 31st of 35; 2016 17th of 30
So except for running looks like Kappy was a low tier starter when he started.
Right now Kappy should go to the CFL for one last ditch effort to see if he can tear it up and get a tryout somewhere
"Let’s stop with this Colin Kaepernick stuff. Let’s just stop it. Colin Kaepernick’s been out of football for what over five years now," Irvin said on Monday's edition of ESPN's First Take, shutting down the Stephen A. Smith suggestion that the Cowboys give Kaepernick a try in place of the injured Dak Prescott. "Come on, man. Let’s stop all of a sudden thinking we can go resurrect Colin Kaepernick and he’s going to come and resurrect a football team. Not going to happen."https://twitter.com/OutkickDanZ/status/1569371490977546240 (video clip at link)
Stephen A Smith thinks the Dallas Cowboys should give Colin Kaepernick a call, despite that he hasn’t played in over 5 years.
He says they won’t, though, not because he isn’t good enough but because Texas is too “patriotic.”
So except for running looks like Kappy was a low tier starter when he started.
Not necessarily. Depends what stats you are looking at (chart of Top 15 QBs with their TD to INT ratio at below link).
Metrics that Matter: Just how good (or not) is Colin Kaepernick? | Fantasy Football News, Rankings and Projections | PFF
The QB has been the subject of much debate this offseason, both on-field and off. Scott Barrett looks at the on-field side.www.pff.com
The Good: Throughout the history of the NFL, among all 186 quarterbacks to record at least 1,500 attempts throughout their careers, Colin Kaepernick ranks fifth-best in passing touchdown to interception ratio (72:30.)
TD to INT ratio is not an irrelevant nor an insignificant stat, as it is a measure of accuracy. And he obviously won some games since he took his team to two NFC Division Championship games and one Super Bowl.
Do you have a link for this? Not one QB has used the CFL as an entry way to the NFL in 22 years. Not one. So, either there hasn't been one QB who played in the CFL since 1999 who is good enough to play in the NFL or (more likely) the NFL thinks playing in the CFL proves nothing and pays no attention (maybe it's the wider field or that there is only 3 downs instead of 4).

Sounds like if he's half as you good as you claim he would go dominate the CFL Wonder why he doesn't?Do you have a link for this? Not one QB has used the CFL as an entry way to the NFL in 22 years. That is from my own recollection, and I remember that was noted by sportswriters for the brief time that Johnny Manzel was in the CLF and before that why Tim Tebow never tried playing in the CFL. If anyone can come forward with some names, it would be appreciated as I have trouble recalling any CFL QB to even make an NFL roster and certain none that ever started an NFL game since Jeff Garcia.
Ok thanks, due to my college rooting interests, I know of a QB well after '99 that went from the CFL to a few-year clipboard gig that only played a bit of mop-up duty in the regular season. Not a notable guy. That is from my own recollection, and I remember that was noted by sportswriters for the brief time that Johnny Manzel was in the CLF and before that why Tim Tebow never tried playing in the CFL. I wouldn't bet on any player who goes by the nickname "Kappy"

Not necessarily. I've said from the time he tried out with The Raiders, he will probably get signed as an insurance policy late in the season when QBs and backups start going down to injuries. Take a look at some of the QBs signed out of desperation in the last month in the season for the last few years (which was talked about at the time in this thread).

Yes, and he was blackballed until this year (and may still be as far as some teams are concerned). He didn't get a workout until 2022 (came close a few years back with Seattle who invited him for a workout, then cancelled it when Kaepernick indicated he would still kneel during the anthem).
