Female Comedic roles in the movies (1 Viewer)

It is very difficult for me to come up with a good list of female comedic roles in the movies.

What are some of your favorites?

My list pretty much starts and ends with Marisa Tomei's brilliant role in My Cousin Vinny.

Madeline Khan had a few funny moments in Clue. Diaz was just average and played more of a straight role in There's Something About Mary.

Isla Fisher gave the funniest performance in Wedding Crashers.

Women are rarely given the comic roles. When they are, it's generally something like what Fisher got. The crazy girlfriend/ex-girlfriend. The failure is probably mostly with the writers.

I can't think of a modern screenwriter other than John Hughes who consistently tried to write funny female and male roles. Tarantino, I guess. That's one of his chief virtues.

I wouldn't say she was really funny in that movie but she sure was sexy in that one.

Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany's - more romantic comedy though

Meg Ryan - When Harry Met Sally

I think he does. I like Tarantino more than you do and a lot less than jdoggydogg, but I don't know many people who don't think that he at least writes snappy, memorable dialogue (whether he does so in a one-trick pony kind of way is a different debate). And when he does so, the one-liner is as likely to come from Uma Thurman as from John Travolta.

Amanda Peet was pretty good in both Saving Silverman and The Whole 9 Yards

Havent seen Young Adult yet but I have a feeling Charlize Theron will deserve mentioning here.

Joey Lauren Adams had a nice mid-90's run, I thought (Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dazed and Confused). Especially great in Chasing Amy.

Leslie Mann is funny in everything she does.

Elizabeth Banks in "Zack and Miri Make a Porno". Pretty funny in the small 40 YO Virgin role too. Hilarious in 30 Rock, but that doesn't count.

I think she's amazing, in general, and I'm not sure many actresses could've pull that role off as well.

Katherine Hepburn in Bringing Up Baby (1938) one of the first screwball comedies.

A clip from the film where Hepburn and Cary Grant find her escaped pet leopard, named Baby and trying to coax it off a roof by singing the leopards favorite song "I can't give you anything but love, baby."

Reese Witherspoon in Election was awesome. Also, now that I'm thinking of Alexander Payne movies, Laura Dern in Citizen Ruth was great.
