Minnesota Vikings Team Thread (2 Viewers)

Vikings are a little light on running back depth and it not a position that I would have targeted in the draft. That said, I would be definitely targeting guys that teams will be trying to sneak onto the practice squad in late August. Any Aaron Jones clones on the roster bubble.
Did they sign any UDFA RBs?
Not a single one. You think one of the free agents would choose to sign with Minnesota just based on odds.

Unsure how the org feels about Dwayne McBride after drafting him and getting him onto PS last year, but he may get another look.
I am not really high on him unless he has improved his receiving ability. I think Kene is just a kick returner and Gaskin doesn't excite me.
Worse case, Dalvin should be available.

I think Jones and Chandler are really good options. The depth is a little thin but I don't see them playing more than those two unless injuries hit anyway. Plus, Ham can play RB in a pinch. I'm more worried about WR depth than RB depth. Will be interesting to see if they try and get a vet WR as WR3. Powell isn't good enough/consistent enough for that role, IMO.

i believe the reason GB parted ways with Aaron Jones was his propensity for injury and not skill. I think a 3rd half back is going to required and Kwesi doesn't have many late round draft picks he throw at the problem. I don't expect that we will be contender this year but it seems like wilful blindness at this point.
Here is a good recap of the Vikings running game in 2023. https://www.vikings.com/news/2023-position-recap-running-backs. 2023 running attack was rather dismal.

I hear what you are saying and it would also make sense to lean on the running game more while a rookie QB gains experience. Especially when that rookie comes from a team that did this a lot.

The GM and coaches do not prioritize running the ball at all though.

Dare I say it. Starting to think that it might be a mistake not to sign Darnold to a 2 year contract. He could have trade valve in 2025 if he performs.
He changes a lot once there is real pass rush. He is playing vs air right now.

That said I do think Darnold at age 26 may have enough experience now to play better than he has when he was younger and I think he has a better supporting cast than he had with the Jets and Panthers.

I have seen examples and evidence of QBs playing well in their late 20s to early 30s. Maybe Darnold follows that path as well.

"So you're saying there's a chance?!"

The best he ever looked was those first 4 games in 2021 on the Panthers. Averaged 300 yards and accounted for 10 TDs half of which were on the ground- and 3 ints.

The clock struck midnight and he turned back into a frog. His last 8 games played that year 167 yards passing per game, 4 passing TDs 0 Rush TDs vs 10 INTs. I know that he got hurt game 10 and missed 5 games but he was just as bad sandwiched around the injury. That's worse than Bryce Young last year (but not by much oof). That was his 4th year as a starter.

2022- 6 games with CAR-190 yards per game, 7 td 3 int. So he wasn't quite as much of a turnover machine but it was still really, really bad. 5th year as a starter.

That 7th year. That'll be the one.

Its a bold straregy Cotton.

To be clear I dont think anyone here thinks Sam Darnold is the answer to anything except QB busts dradted in the top 5.

Nor sure why the NFL keeps recycling QBs who have failed inatead of trying someone new.

The Jobs are so difficult there are only a few who even get a chance.

I’m always a fan of classic and traditional uniforms… but gotta admit… these winter warrior jerseys could grow on me.
Just shouldn’t call them that. I mean…big time winter warrior…in a 75 degree dome.

I do like the look though. Not the biggest fan of the white horn - purple would have popped against all that white, but it is a clean looking uni.
